I agree with both you and the OP. I firmly believe that there are stylish, confident, articulate, talented, smart, awesome girls in each and every house. There are THOUSANDS of PNMs every year and THOUSANDS of girls in Panhel so it's ridiculous to say that all the "great" PNMs go old row and the "leftovers" go new row. But I also don't think that the only thing separating old row and new row are connections. When I went through recruitment, I knew plenty of girls in a particular chapter from my high school, but didn't end up there because it wasn't the right fit for me. And obviously with chapters as large as they are at Alabama, you can pretty much find girls of all types in each group, but there are overall vibes, and I didn't click with this particular house. Is that bad? No! They get great PCs every year, and I love my chapter. I think if you really click with a chapter, and you have everything going for you, you'll end up where you belong, regardless of tier or row. If you don't really click with them outside of what's on paper, you won't get in, even if you're a legacy with tons of connections, because no one wants to give a bid to someone who will be unhappy in the chapter. So if you're an OOS/OOR PNM with a 4.3 GPA and tons of leadership experience and community service hours, DON'T be discouraged by what you read on here, just be YOURSELF and you will truly find your people. Maybe not on IWT or on bid day, but you WILL find them.
