many posters here make good points - it will be time-consuming to be a charter member, you won't get the same experience as joining an established chapter, some members of the community aren't eager about SK, and you should make your own decisions about which chapter you want to join. But that's just the things - this is YOUR own decision. So even if Bitter Becky in XYZ doesn't want SK to come to campus, they're coming. it's final. She has no idea whether or not you're the kind of person who would thrive in a new chapter, who is eager for a challenge, and who wants leadership experience right off the bat. But that same girl is in a sorority that's colonizing at different schools next year too, but would she deter PNMs from considering her chapter? If you're interested in being in a sorority in general, go through recruitment. If that doesn't work out (whether it doesn't feel right or you get dropped, nobody's business), pursue SK. Neither path is a guarantee, so it's good to keep all options open. Just be realistic with yourself about what you want and what you can handle, and you should find your home!
