This has been discussed extensively in a recent thread but there are 2 big reasons why girls from Alabama and surrounding states are more desired: 1. We already know and are friends with many girls rushing, we know their reputations and know if they have the financial security for 4 years of a sorority. It's easy to fill a class with girls you already know and like. 2. We need to keep retention up, and girls from around the south are so much more likely to stay at Alabama for all 4 years because they already know they like the south and they're less likely to get homesick. Students from hundreds of miles away come for various reasons but many end up transferring or dropping because they hate the south or didn't understand what southern sororities are about. At the end of the day, there are 9 new row sororities that are predominantly OOS and maybe 4 or 5 that are predominately non southern. Old row sororities will take the cream of the crop OOS but for the rest it's not like you're not going to find a home.
