I was an OOS girl with no connections and even though my conversations at KD, PM, and AGD were about the same as my conversations at a few new row houses, I ranked the new row houses higher because I understood my chances at the most distinctly "southern" old row houses were slim. I ended up with a decent schedule every round because I took the geographic diversity of houses into account when ranking. I agree somewhat with post #2 because I think if you really really love a house you shouldn't count yourself "out" and rank it at the bottom just because they have a high GPA and you don't, they have a reputation for wanting connections and you don't have them, etc. BUT there are so many houses in the first two rounds that you are probably going to end up feeling roughly the same about a lot of them - so in those cases definitely think strategically.
