They may have thought they didn't have recs, but it's extremely possible someone wrote them a rec on their behalf without telling them. Houses will NOT bid you without a rec. It's possible for them to get a rec for you during recruitment but that takes a lot of effort and scrambling to get it done. And why should they go through all that effort when they could bid a girl they love just as much as you but who DID have a rec? Do yourself a favor and get those recs.
