Don't forget UT Austin. Considerably larger school than Bama but considerably fewer PNMs going through and pledge classes in the 50s and 60s. Many PNMs either get released completely because they don't rank strategically or they drop because they don't get a Big Six house. The very top houses (Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta) recruit based exclusively on family wealth and social standing -- if you don't have the right connections, pedigree, and zip code, you're not getting in, no matter how pretty, smart, and involved you are. Also, PKT is notorious for being openly mean to PNMs they have no interest in.
