@why then: PNMs rank houses in case you are invited to more houses than you can go back to. Then your ranking is used to decide which houses are eliminated. Basically, the sororities have first choice and your list is only used if you get too many invitations. If you can go to 8 parties and only 7 invite you back, you will go to those 7 no matter where you ranked them. If you get invited back to 10, then your rankings are considered.
