I'll share my personal experience, take it for what it's worth. I came from a non-southern out of state, with recommendations true family and friends to various houses, none of the recommendations were from Alabama alumnae. It definitely seems like the recommendations helped, as I was carried by the top houses where I had them and drop by the ones where I did not. At pref I had two, top old row houses and one of the better new row houses. I chose and got a bid from the new row house, and love it there! It was a better fit for me. One of my close friends who I met here, and is a non-southern out of state girl, joined one of the old row houses I had a bid from and I have become friends with many of her other friends in that house. Her group in that house is primarily out of state and they spend a lot of time with a group from my new row house. We all like our houses I guess my point is to focus on where you fit best, and it will all work out. Coming from out of state, particularly a non-southern state, you may find that you bond better With similar girls, whether in an old house or new.
