First and foremost, recs are not the end all and be all. It is recommended that PNMs submit 1-2 recs per house just so the sororities can look more into you, but if you don't get recs it won't hold you back. Recs are basically a formal way to get your name out to the sororities and tell them that you're very interested. If you do decided to submit recs keep in mind: 1.) 2 recs per house at most, any more and it will seem desperate. 2.) All houses accept recs from alums but only some accept recs from actives, you can see which houses accept which recs online 3.) It does not matter what "tier" the sorority is in at whichever school the alum is from. 4.) Start asking for recs early!!! You want to be ahead of things when it comes to recs so I'd start asking between now and March and have things ready to be sent in around late April/early May if you want to be ahead. 5.) This should go without saying, but be polite and understanding when asking for recs. Writing a rec isn't the most strenuous thing but it can take a while, so be nice to the alums. Good luck!
