This is a good thread. But it is even more than respecting your friends and roommates. It is genuinely understanding that no house is inherently superior than another. If you truly reach that level of understanding there is nothing to be awkward or uncomfortable or even careful about. You won't insult or give off any signals because you know that there is no substantive difference. Just different houses work out for different girls because we are all unique.
