I'm OOS but from the South and I went to Pref night with them (chose someone else) and didn't know anyone personally. However, I went to a well-known school in my hometown, got academic awards, lots of extracurriculars, my rec writers knew my parents and what they did for a living, and they knew the name of my summer camp. Plus, I do think that I communicated well with the actives that I spoke to. So not impossible to get a bid if you match what they're looking for.
