If you are truly a one year exchange student, you will not get a bid. Chapters are not going to waste a bid on someone who won't be able to fufill the four-year commitment. Now if you're an international student coming for all four years, you should go through rush & hopefully you'll find a home. I know many sorority alumnae groups do have chapters in the UK so try to get as many recommendation letters as you can. Being black is far less of a problem than not being here all 4 years. If you are only here for one year, make friends with Greeks so you'll be invited to fraternity parties and can try to absorb as much of the experience as you can without being a member.
