Subject:
Can I still rush a frat without having dirty rushed?

Poster Message:
I’m a freshman and am thinking of rushing a frat in the spring, but I haven’t dirty rushed anywhere at all. When I came to Cornell, I really didn’t think I’d want to join greek life and made no effort to meet anyone in it in the first few weeks, which seems to have been a mistake. I got invited to one or two “dirty rush” events in August, but I didn’t go to either as I was convinced I wasn’t interested. I kind of associated frat life with excessive bro-ishness, but after having met some cool people involved and realizing how prevalent greek life is here, I started changing my mind on things. I’m a pretty social guy, but I haven’t gone out much this first sem as I’ve been taking an aggressive courseload and have been constantly swamped. Most of my friends go out every weekend, but most of them are girls. Most of my best guy friends don’t go out much more than me, so I can’t really tag along with what they are doing. After reflecting more on it, I think I’d really enjoy being part of an organization like a frat where I can form strong male friendships (most of my friends are girls, which is perfectly fine, but I went to an all-boys middle school and sort of miss some of the bonding that came from that), but I’m worried that I might have screwed myself over by not coming to this conclusion earlier. I don’t care much about “clout” for its own sake, but I would like to be in a house that is active and has brothers that commit time to the frat and to each other, which may correspond with being highly ranked on this site. I know Greekrank can be kind of a cesspool, but I’d really appreciate any genuine advice if anyone is willing to give some.
