Subject:
the problem with panhel’s proposals

Poster Message:
Let me just say that first off, i’m in a sorority and the fact that most of these proposals are more about regulating registered events (which are already highly regulated) instead of trying to implement well thought-out sanctions to discourage dirty rush / hazing culture is honestly a slap in the face. I say this because the proposals do not even come close to addressing the real issues on campus such as intense unregistered events, which have horrible and real consequences like we saw last week. What it really feels like is that this tragedy is being used as a blanket to push for unrelated things, which is honestly disrespectful. But putting all that aside, I think everyone agrees that safety is the most important thing to focus on for parties in the future. Currently there are a lot of rules and regulations which keep parties in check, and if sororities want more rules and regulations to feel comfortable that should be completely understandable. What’s not understandable though is wanting these additional things and simply demanding they be done without suggesting any kind of framework for a frat to realistically accomplish these things. If Panhel wants people watching every exit (which there are like 12 of at every frat), then by all means it would be great for those doors to get watched but just realistically frats can’t do it all themselves. Here’s a solution: offering a little help and mandating that sororities send over sobers to carry out the additional safety needs they have when they mix with a frat. Honestly why is this already not the case. That way both parties are holding each other accountable at parties.
