I'm assuming this is a girl asking so I'll speak on behalf of sororitys, it isn't easy. I remember being told that initially 1,300 girls started during recruitment 2018 and after the first round like 1000 got cut completely or something like that, a really crazy number. that goes for a lot of reasons though, like it could be those girls didn't meet grade requirements of all the houses and obviously no house is going to waste time rushing a girl that they already know isn't making her grades. I knew a lot of people going through as well and I will definitely tell you that more so than it being competitive, rushing at tamu is just kind of shocking because houses can see through you and know very well who does and doesn't gel with their group because houses typically have general qualities and values in common amongst members. don't be surprised if the girls from your school all end up in separate houses even if they try to stay together. I will say that your preferences as a pnm will hold almost no weight until pref night, the last round, and if you get cut from houses that you thought you really liked, don't let it get you down. trust the system and know that it probably wasn't necessarily that they didn't think you could have fit in with them, a lot of times the situation is that they see you more as another chapter because they also know what other chapters are like outside of what they act like during recruitment. don't go in with the mindset that you're in competition for anything, be open minded because houses can tell who comes in only wanting certain houses. plus, if you go in without an open mind and other houses can tell, if you end up getting cut for the house you were competing for, you might not have other options that you like if you made a bad impression on other houses by not seeming open minded and they cut you too. hope this helps.
