Subject:
rush advice from fraternity members

Poster Message:
we usually look at their grades first to see if they can actually stay in school then look at how they do in a social setting to see what they’re like & if they keep coming back & remember people’s names fraternity’s will start to really like him & invite him back It varies a little bit for each fraternity but generally I’d say they’re looking for people who are super social who they could see themselves being friends with They usually have a general range of the number of bids they want to give but definitely not a set number They normally have their rush classes picked out by the end of the summer and with sigma chi, as long as he didn’t do something to piss off an older guy and was fun around them he should be fine, tell him that not to choose a house because his friends are or because he thinks they are the “top house” the house where he fits in the best, that’s my best advice for rush. When he goes through formal rush he needs to talk to as many people as possible make good impressions be chill and make sure that he isn’t awkward or kiss ass a lot. Out of state kids do in most fraternities but ones like SNU or Sig Chi normally don’t take out of state kids unless they really like you but the other 12 fraternities here are open and don’t really care where you are from. I mean no but that just means less time in a fraternity and the entire fall everyone of his friends who did rush will never be in the dorms because of pledgeship Tell him just to put his self out there don’t be afraid to go up and talk to people being out of state is an uphill climb but some of the coolest people in fraternities are out of state he just needs to meet people It takes everybody to agree to give a bid and just to be himself just be cool social and an overall good dude Best thing is for him to be himself because the guys wanna know how he is as a person nevertheless the fraternity its honestly just best for him to find his fit in whatever house because if you join just because of letters, house, etc you’re not getting the brotherhood you truly want You’re brother is definitely right about bigger, will probably just make his experience better. He definitely will be fine from the sound of it, being outgoing isn’t always so easy when you don’t know many people but it’s as good a quality as any when it comes to making friends Yea you can definitely get a bid at formal rush. They are looking for guys with sociable skills. It looks good to be in a small group when youre talking to the frats. Good morals and good grades. Someone with a drive and a congenial disposition. Talk to the rush chairs when you can and try not to ask boring questions. Don’t be a douche, be polite, be outgoing, and be funny
