For DZ it's not false. Do some math people. Look at the grade report in the fall. If a chapter has made quota the previous three years with a mostly freshman pledge class, the chapter should have around 150 members on the fall grade report. Around 50 sisters in each class, given that quota has been between 50-56 the last three years. Chapters that have 150 have good retention. Chapters over 150 have either good retention and or took larger pledge classes (which they are allowed to do) to pay for housing additions or because their national org wants them to be above average chapter size. Chapters with below 150 have retention issues meaning that women drop before they are seniors. Two years ago DZ had 129 on the grade report, the only chapter smaller was DphiE. Look at the photos they have in the chapter house during recruitment, when a photo of 20 girls is labeled as the senior class photo, you know there is an issue. Sure they have a few Rho Gams and Pahel people but that pledge class started with 50-55 women and now it has 20+ a few more. And that's not a retention problem? I don't know about Gamma Phi, but I went to DZ pretty far during recruitment and I rarely talked to a senior and didn't see many seniors there. One of my floor mates went DZ and dropped as soon as she turned 21. She would be in the senior pledge class this year and I know several of her pledge sisters who dropped. Look at the grade reports, that will give you an idea about how many members each chapter has and how good their retention is. All grade reports are available on the SLL website.
