<strong>Subject:</strong><br />advice for survival?<br /><br /> Poster Message:
I was sad to see SNU expelled this week and I wanted to offer some advice. I am a former IFC Exec who is about 10 years removed from Bloomington. My parents were Greek at IU as were my older brothers. My girlfriend was in a sorority at IU and and is a recent graduate. In other words, I have perspective that spans multiple decades. I have been doing a ton a research on IU's Greek system as my house was suspended recently and I am working with other alumni to develop a plan to bring the chapter back and ensure it succeeds. I approached this problem like I would an investment. I do a ton of research, consult with other experts and develop a thesis on how to improve operations and reduce risk. As such, I have probably completed north of 100 hours of research on IU's fraternity system over the last year and at this point am probably one of the top experts when it comes to the history and policy of IU’s Greek system. I genuinely want to help as I dedicated hundreds of hours as an undergrad to trying to improve the Greek system. I credit my fraternity experience with a large portion of my personal and professional success and I hope that others at IU can have an equally solid experience, even if my chapter is temporarily off campus. I have research on why certain chapters at IU avoid suspension and others seem to be perpetually in trouble. I have also done research on why nearly all of IU’s housed chapters have been suspended over the last 25 years but this same effect has not been seen on other large Greek campuses like Alabama or Illinois. I am a bit busy with projects this week but if anyone genuinely would like some advice, I will make some time to share some of my knowledge. If anyone running for a fraternity chapter executive position would like the chapter specific information or anyone running for IFC would like advice on how to improve the structure of the Greek system so chapters are not getting expelled all the time, please reply to this posting and let me know you are interested.
