At most schools with better Greek systems the girls in each pledge class are very close because they are together all freshman year (after joining in August) and work together on Homecoming, making grades, their philanthropy etc. Then they become even closer while living in the house as sophomores. Most then go on to live with their sisters in apartments as juniors and seniors, and they most often choose to live in the same apartment complex. Some even are referred to as the ChiO annex or the PiPhi annex because there are 50+ people in the same sorority who live in that complex. It works out extremely well because juniors and seniors pay partial dues and always go to the house for lunch and, of course, for formal dinner each week and chapter meetings. But they don't have to put up with the sorority b.s. when they are older and really into their majors and all of the academic demands that are put on them. It's a great system and the houses really thrive because they have so much money coming in. Hardly anyone ever drops out or deactivates, plus you get a taste of living on your own in an apartment, which, to be honest, should be part of anyone's college experience as a step toward independence.
