University officials' letters to IFC and fraternity presidents state that fraternity members who disaffiliate or violate other policies such of the ban on freshmen fall rush starting in 2019 can be punished . The University has the legal ability to unilaterally (without student involvement) sanction students for certain actions. Punishments can range from probation to expulsion. We are standing by our decision to disaffiliate because the University is not offering any guarantees that they will not use the city's ordinance to indirectly shut down chapter houses for lack of compliance with future rules that can be enacted without student input. Is anyone worried about the University's position and having second thoughts about disaffiliation? If so, why?
