It helps because there's an upperclassmen quota and less upperclassmen to choose from. Therefore you're competing with, say, 100 girls as opposed to 1000. It's very common for sophomores to end up in higher tiers than they would've as freshmen. Please keep in mind that at the end of the day your tier does NOT equal your happiness. Go somewhere you fit in not somewhere that's taking you just because of numbers
