Having friends and being social are definitely two huge components of being in a sorority. In my house, studying is also emphasized. We have proctored study hours at our house and are encouraged to monitor all of our studying; I would imagine that most houses have a similar system. Supporting each other's accomplishments (academic/professional and otherwise) is part of sisterhood. However, there is also a visible amount of drinking and some drama, although both can be avoided. In my sorority we never force our members to drink, but it is often part of socializing (as it is in a lot of social circles, not just sororities or Greek life).
