Kids being selected for bids during rush at Penn State is literally the most superficial thing you could think of, many don’t realize it. The frats select you based on how athletic and attractive you are, connections can help somewhat but not as much as your looks. Everyone wants to be in the highest tier, so they basically take the bid of the highest tier frat that accepts/settles for them. For example a frat in tier 3 takes kids good looking enough for tier 3, tries to get those good enough for 1 and 2, and usually rejects anyone below tier 3 standards if they’re able to. Kids choose their frats in this way as well, usually just picking whichever frat is the highest tier. But think about it, a frat is looking for “lifelong friends” right? Why would you care about the attractiveness of someone you want as a friend? You’d only care about their personality and how well your brothers would get along with him after including him in your friend group. But this isn’t how it works at Penn State, just a highly superficial process competing to recruit the “coolest” (as in athletic and good looking) guys. Sad.
