Not hard at all. But, you need to have a few friends in the house that can vouch for you. You just need to: 1. Have a close friend in the house. 2. Be legit friendly with a few girls from each grade and do things with them. Don’t talk about rushing with them. 3. Be involved in campus life in some way 4. Don’t be a “risk” by partying TOO hard or being messy drunk at parties or gossiping. No house wants to knowingly bring issues in. 5. Getting legacy or general recs do still help from alumni. Many don’t guarantee spots anymore but they do help some. The biggest issue sophomores specifically face is housing. Most girls want to live in the house their senior year, and sororities typically plan their pledge class sizes around how many members they need to fill the house so costs don’t increase for everyone. Financially, in most houses every bed usually needs to be filled (except Theta). DePauw also limits pledge class sizes, so houses can’t necessarily make up for it later. When they take a sophomore, that’s one fewer spot in the pledge class they can require to live in the house down the line because your class will be mainly freshman. Honestly, I wouldn’t mention wanting to live out at any point in the process. I think APhi and Theta may care less because of their space restrictions/over population, but generally, that’s one consideration sororities have when taking sophomores.
