Quota additions are confidential. That is when a girl attends her prefs parties, and puts every house on her preference card, therefore maximizing her options. She doesn't match with any of the houses on her list, but because she maximized her options, the computer chair goes in and manually places her in a house, usually her first choice. Nobody except the computer chair knows that she is a quota addition. Snap bids happen when all the PNMs are sorted into their bid lists, and the lists are complete, and a house does not have enough girls on their bid list to meet quota. So let's say quota is 90, and KD had 70 girls on their bid list after all the matching and sorting. KD is then given the option to bid girls who either did not maximize their options and did not make a match (and therefore were not manually added) or were dropped from recruitment before preferentials. KD (usually the president and person in charge of recruitment, not the entire chapter) and the computer chair discuss it, and the PNMs are given calls that say something like "blah blah KD wants to extend a bid" or whatever. If they accept, they are added to the bid list. They show up on bid day and are given a bid card like everybody else, but that is kept way less under wraps than quota additions because the new members that were given snap bids know and some chapter members know.
