People love to talk about themselves and things that they know. Ask questions you genuinely want to know regarding their sorority and sorority life. If you have heard they do a great philanthropy, ask about it. If you are curious how they handle academics and social life, inquire. If you notice something interesting about their house, comment and/or ask about it. Unless they ask you about it, don't try to tell your entire life story early on. The first part is a lot first impression. Try to keep a positive attitude. Try to maintain comfortable eye contact...a good trick, if that is uncomfortable for you, is to look at the spot between their eyes...it looks like you are making eye contact even if you are not. If you find yourself thinking of your own responses while they are talking, let go of your response in your mind and really listen to what they are saying. People can tell if you are genuinely interested in what they are saying. If it is in your nature, be friendly in a cool cat sort of way, not in a bouncing, happy puppy dog sort of way. The happy puppy dog type can across a bit over enthusiastic and can be a little off putting. However, if bouncy puppy dog is your true personality, own it. Rush is not a good time to be fake, it can come back to haunt you later.
