The SEC????? Illinois State isn’t even in the SEC, so why would Phi Sig’s reputation at ISU be measured by whether SEC students have heard of it. And that actually misses the point of Phi Sigma Sigma’s history. Look up how it was founded. Its identity has historically emphasized inclusivity and welcoming members rather than building its reputation around exclusivity which is literally what the SEC does!! Let’s not forget all the racism that’s also associated with SEC. Phi Sig never wanted to be a part of SEC and that was strategic on nationals part. Phi Sigma Sigma has built its own reputation at ISU. A sorority’s success on that campus isn’t determined by whether someone at an SEC, big 10 etc school has heard of it. Who cares what they think, what happens at ISU is what matters. If you think name recognition makes a strong chapter, you are wrong. It’s the women in the chapter and Phi Sig has strong amazing women. Acting like the SEC is the barometer for every sorority in the country is exactly the kind of narrow-minded Greek-life elitism Phi Sig has never needed to buy into.
