It may help some, as you have someone in the chapter who may be your internal cheerleader from day 1, but it's never guaranteed that they will have enough pull for it to matter. It can make you feel less nervous to see a familiar face during all of the insanity. Like being a legacy, it may help get you invited back in the early rounds, and doesn't hurt, but it's not a guarantee. And it could backfire if they don't actually like you or if they have a bad reputation in the chapter.
