Also, remember that chapters are large and you don't meet everyone during recruitment. Every chapter, even your first choice, will have sisters you're not close to and sisters that are your best friends, many of them will be in your pledge class! And we've all seen how one or two great, involved pledge classes can change a chapter in the best ways, so be that new member wherever you end up, then help recruit a class after you to do it too. Everyone on here can say that they are different from the woman they were during recruitment because of the opportunities greek life gives you. Your sorority is your home and your sisters, but it's also the key to a lot of broader opportunities across panhel and greek life. And don't use "I didn't feel a connection" as an excuse because you've read stuff on here and think they are a bot house. You have to put some effort into getting to know the sisters just like they're putting effort into getting to know you! Take the time to think of a couple of topics you are passionate about (e.g. animal rescue, cooking, country music, the Reds, getting Instagram likes) and bring those up to see if you connect on something your passionate about. You might say, "those pictures of all of you baking were great! I started cooking with my Grandma when I was little and loved it, and I miss doing it because I now only have a microwave." Or perhaps you ask, "have you or your sisters ever taken a random roadtrip? Last summer my best friend and I last minute decided to go see Jason Aldean in Cleveland." Also, think of something you liked doing in high school and ask if there is a way to get involved in something similar at the chapter. If you were on yearbook, perhaps you could be VP of public relations or chapter historian. You've not required to initiate into a chapter because you accepted a bid, but I bet you'll end up loving your new home. And remember, if you drop out to take another go at recruitment, be classy about it because all sororities talk and they will remember next year if you insulted the groups who did invite you to pref.
