Here's the facts.

What you don't realize is that the "top" chapters are good at making small talk and recruiting. Period. They can make anyone like them in a short time (which is how they recruit well), but that does not mean anyone would fit in after recruitment is over. I know women who have pledged "top" chapters only later to drop out when they realize they don't have much in common with their sisters except the superficial stuff. The chapters who are not as strong at recruiting still have great women, but they may not be as good at small talk. It may take longer for you to really get to know them. Obviously they must have seen something in you, however, for you to get a bid. (These chapters do drop women during recruitment contrary to gossip on here.) People need to get over "favorites" and "best" equating with chapters who know how to sell themselves and really get to know the women in the chapters who have chosen them. Most of the women after recruitment would say they love their chapters and could never see themselves anywhere else (contrary to what they thought going through recruitment). What you won't realize is that recruitment really is a numbers game, and no chapter can take every women who goes through, whether they may like them in a party or not. So some chapters take the safe way out and chose women they knew before because they are "known quantities." That doesn't mean you aren't likable or that the chapter who selected you is any less of a group. You probably won't see this until you experience recruitment from the other side. What people also don't realize is that there are disadvantages to deferred recruitment as well. With deferred recruitment, you now have a semester to buy into rumors about each chapter, often which are false, and are less likely to give all groups a chance. The chapters are also more likely to get false impressions about you through campus gossip. Heaven forbid you do something really embarrassing at a party, for example, that sticks with you and becomes your reputation, where chapters will not give you a chance. Women still don't always get into the chapters they feel are perfect for them or where they have friends in either, which can lead to even more disappointment. And you better keep your grades up because now chapters have a full semester of college grades to go on, which puts all PNMs on an even playing field. Low grades are an easy cut for any chapter to make. In the end, it is a waste of time to dwell on what could have been and best to make the best of what you have now. It may sound cliche, but it really is true: you get out what you put into it.
