Thank you for your thoughtful response however, almost every mission statement posted by every house SERVICE is listed as one of the primary purposes of joining. I realize fully it’s only one component but it is one of the major ones. I asked about philanthropies to see which houses supported causes that resonated with my values. I was shocked at some of the catty responses targeting houses that made significant monetary contributions to their charities. Personally I feel this information is extremely important to review as it indicates the level of commitment and passion the members have to their charities. I also think it shows which houses aren’t just giving “lip service” to their mission statements. Perhaps for some “service” is not an important reason to join but for me I actually look at who they say they are and how their actions reflect it.
