Dear Pnm, Please understand that philanthropy is ONE aspect of sorority life, but it is not the reason that sororities exist. Friendship, a home away from home in a new and important phase of life, a space for young women to find opportunities to excel in academics and leadership, a fun social life, and just a place to finish growing up, is what being in a sorority is all about. Yes, they all have philanthropies, but sororities do not exist for the sole purpose of fundraising for their worthy beneficiaries. That is one aspect and one aspect only. If your passion is doing this work then that is wonderful and you are not alone, but don't judge the quality of any sorority by a dollars-raised metric. That's not the purpose.
