First round cuts are based on your grades, resume, social media, essay, video, recs, and the opinions of any members who may know you. All of that. As far as cuts, the invitation lists for the Philanthropy Round will have already been made by orientation. Each sorority is given a cutoff number by panhellenic for every round based on percentages of the number of pnm's in the process, and while you will watch the chapter videos and rank them, your ranks will not affect whether you were ranked high enough by a chapter to make their cutoff number. Your ranks of the chapters are not considered in their selection process at any round, they don't even see them. Your ranks only come into play if you would receive more invitations than a round allows, so then your lower ranked chapters would drop off your schedule. Otherwise they will keep coming back as options for you so you can have as many as possible. Pnm's rank chapters, they do not drop them. This is why pnm's should not get their hearts set on any certain sororities until they get their Philanthropy schedule to see where they will actually be rushing. A full schedule for the week would be 9-6-2, but many many pnm's do not ever get a full schedule. They do get a bid though - all it takes is one! During Philanthropy and Sisterhood it's all about how you are in person and your conversations and if you really connect with any members. Sororities are looking for girls who fit their vibe. Be your best genuine YOU and don't try to pretend to be what you think they are looking for, it never goes well. You are looking for your people. TRUST YOUR GUT DURING RECRUITMENT. Don't listen to other pnm's, tent talk, "rankings", or anything other than your own instincts. At Sisterhood if you have a clear favorite house or two you need to let them know that. Remember they don't see your ranks and they also can't read your mind. You want to be ranked high enough to get to their pref. Everyone invited to pref is on that chapter's bid list somewhere, so they want to be sure of your interest. And if you have a favorite at Pref then do tell them that's where you want to be! Each house will have the same Quota, which is determined after pref. There are no cuts after pref just bid matching, so you are guaranteed a bid to one of your two pref houses if you rank both of them. If you have only one pref house and put them down you are getting that bid. If you only rank one out of two pref houses and you don't match with that one house then you are out of the process.
