Sororities are a similar idea yes, except they are def more expensive than frats on average and more money goes to nationals for various charter dues. One of my good friends was in the same situation as you in my chapter (which is one of the more expensive ones) and she liked it but was constantly at work earning money to pay her dues. So she was always working and missing events she was paying for, like socials and date parties and sisterhoods. It's kind of a vicious cycle that takes a toll if you're paying for them without any help. She ended up dropping because it was too much. The reality is a lot of people in Greek life have their dues paid for by their parents. Along with that, you still have to pay for certain things like philanthropy gear, lots and lots of crafts when you're taking a little, buying appropriate clothing for chapter/ events. Greek life is an amazing experience but it does cost money
